How is the CWL Adult Diploma Program different?

The CWL ADP differs from a high-school equivalency (GED) diploma in several ways. The program has three major course components - language arts and social studies, math and science, and career planning. Each component requires students to demonstrate high school level ability through written assignments, examinations, and projects. There are a total of six modules.

  • The goals of language arts and social studies are to prepare a student to comprehend written high school level material; to write grammatically correct papers that demonstrates critical thinking skills; and to understand the basic historical and multi-cultural foundations of the United States.

  • The goals of the math and science components are to develop a basic understanding of mathematical concepts along with the ability to complete proper math functions; to understand how science affects our daily lives; and to apply what they have learned on the job.

  • The goals of the career planning module, called Life Employment Workshop, are to enable students to analyze the skills and knowledge they learned from work and other experiences in order to transfer those skills to new tasks and jobs. In this unique career exploration segment, students learn to assess their skills and interests, develop a career plan, write a resume, and decide what further training they need to advance their career choice.
