“It is easy now when I need to say something... Before I used to answer the phone ‘nobody is here,’ and now I am able to speak.”

- Miriam Reyes, student

English as a Working Language - English as a Second Language in the Workplace

Creative Workplace Learning holds English as a Working Language (EWL) classes at the workplace so employees can easily integrate learning into their busy schedules. The program provides focused instruction for employees who need to improve their English skills for optimal performance at work. The curriculum is customized to address student and employer needs so that the language skills are relevant from day one. The EWL model spans industries from direct healthcare to manufacturing to finance and insurance.

EWL program participants experience significant gains in reading, writing, listening and oral communication skills as evidenced by valid and reliable pre- and post-test scores.

Benefits to learners:

  • improve self-confidence
  • build working relationships in a professional environment
  • develop self-sufficiency at work
  • engage more fully in American life
  • advocate for children in schools

Payoffs to the employer:

  • increased employee participation in meetings
  • more accurate documentation
  • increased productivity
  • better attendance
  • improved safety

Upon completion of the program, the employees are recognized at a formal ceremony and presented with a Creative Workplace Learning EWL Certificate of Achievement.
